3 monkeys, 10 minutes

August 17, 2009

Two things about writing:

  1. It requires a lot of quiet and an absence of distractions.
  2. It is frequently curtailed by the crippling knowledge that there are so many writers out there, so much better at it than you.

Touche, Scott Adams.

These days, when asked how my writing is coming along, I just flippantly say I’m busy working on my opus, The Alien Trilogy: A Musical.

I laugh, but am inwardly crying at the scarcity of the solitude and latitude required by my very fickle muse. And school starts again in less than 3 weeks.

The good news: somehow, somewhere, the gods have taken pity, and I will have a week’s reprieve from motherhood- the boys are off to Chicago with aunt and uncle.

I’ll still have to go to work, but at least will have time to myself afterwards. Husband is already aware he will be ignored for the duration.

So now I just have to get over writing caveat #2.

Right, then… ready the monkey!

For what it’s worth, I don’t think there are so many writers out there who are better than you.

Nonsense, m’dear! Now get to work!

    You angel!
How on earth did you know I needed a swift kick in my lazy behind?
I shan’t forget to thank you when I address the academy 😉
