Books for the New Year

January 14, 2009

Santa was surprisingly on point this Christmas, I amassed a small fortune in Barnes and Noble gift cards.

A day of delirious meandering at the aforementioned bookstore later, here’s a list of what will be occupying me this new year:

2666 – Roberto Bolano

Unaccustomed Earth – Jhumpa Lahiri

Infinite Jest – David Foster Wallace

The Stories of Vladimir Nabokov – Vladimir Nabokov

Middlesex – Jeffrey Eugenides

Runaway – Alice Munro

Slaughterhouse Five – Kurt Vonnegut

Last Evenings on Earth – Roberto Bolano

White Teeth – Zadie Smith

On Beauty – Zadie Smith

Time and Materials – Robert Hass

Our Story Begins – Tobias Wolff

Miguel Street – V.S. Naipaul

The Aleph and Other Stories – Jorge Luis Borges

Close Range: Wyoming Stories – Annie Proulx

Fault Lines – Nancy Huston

Emigrants – W.G. Sebald

Drinking Coffee Elsewhere – ZZ Packer

And for the kiddies: Haroun and the Sea of Stories by Salman Rushdie.  We’re currently on Chapter 2 and still giggling over the Shah of Blah.
